Vinification
Poggio Lombrone is made from a quality selection of Sangiovese grapes grown in the venerable Poggio Lombrone vineyard lying at an elevation of 30 metres, planted in calcareous sandstone. The vineyard, over 50 years old, is cultivated organically and has very low yields per hectare. The grapes are picked strictly by hand, and fermentations are in small, 10hl tapered wooden vats, with manual punch-downs and lengthy macerations. Malolactic occurs in 40hl Slavonian oak ovals, followed by 30 months of maturation.
